BEAVER BROOK NATURE EXPLORATION SUMMER PROGRAM

BBCS Nature Exploration Camp is a fully outdoor program that focuses on respectful relationships with our world. We nurture each child's curiosity and promote leadership, independence, and self-esteem. 

Location: 1 School Street Wilmington at the Old School Enrichment Center Fields
Dates: 9 weeks, June 24 - August 23, 2024
Time/Days: Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm
Ages: 3-8 years (3 year olds in licensed childcare/day camp)
Cost: 4-8 year olds $200/week, 3 year olds $60/day

2024 Camp Weeks (in order of occurrence):

Nature Arts, June 24 - June 28: Dive into summer with nature-based exploration and expression. We'll be using native materials to make permanent and temporary art with projects like mandalas, mobiles, mosaics, and more!

Foraging, July 1 - 5: Ever wonder how to use native flora and fungi in creative and beneficial ways? We partner with expert foragers to learn about local resources in our backyard. Special take home projects include teas and salves. +$10
Bugs and Insects, July 8 - 12: Crawly caterpillars! Magical moths! Wonderful worms! Join us to celebrate the native arthropods and invertebrates of Vermont.

Music and Movement, July 15 - 19: Get ready to move as we explore ways to root into our body and our self. We'll do some dancing and chanting of course, but we'll also learn about cooperative activities, trust experiences, and yoga. +$10
Indigenous Arts, July 22 - 26: Join us to learn about the history of our land the people who have lived here. We'll use multiple materials to recreate art that Native Peoples used as forms of communication and expression. Sample projects may include weaving, beading, sculpting, etc. +$10

Water and Aquatic Life, July 29 - August 2: Get ready to get wet! We'll be spending lots of time in the Beaver Brook as we learn about the species that use the local waterway for food, shelter, and transportation. This week will include a walking field trip to the Harriman Reservoir for swimming and even more water investigations!

Vermont Animals with VT Natural History Museum, August 5-9: Does your child love all living creatures big and small? Then this is the week for them! We'll be studying habitats, food webs, and diversity of many local mammals, birds, and reptiles. We are welcoming back the folks from the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum to share stories and live animals during a special presentation! +$20

Storytelling and Puppetry with Sandglass Theater, August 12-16: We love sharing and retelling stories and encouraging open-ended creative play! This week will include making homemade puppets to perform with and take home, and a special presentation from the Sandglass Theater! +$40
Pollinators and Environmental Stewardship, August 19-23: Our final camp week will highlight the importance of native pollinator species and their impact on the health of our planet. We will be finishing up our pollinator garden at the local park and sending children home with pollinator friendly seeds and plants of their own.
